11th Sunday after Pentecost [Ordinary 19B] – Words for Worship (Year B)

Call to Worship (inspired by John 6:35, 41-51)

The Almighty has called us here.

Together, we will be taught by our Creator.

Christ alone is the bread of life.

Together, we will eat and be filled.

Prayer of Confession (inspired by Ephesians 4:25-5:2)

Let us confess our sins before God and one another.

For our refusal to speak the truth to our neighbors,

have mercy, O Lord.

For our anger-fueled willingness to make room for the Devil instead of You,

have mercy, O Lord.

For the ways we steal from others and try to claim righteousness,

have mercy, O Lord.

For the evil words that come out of our mouths more easily than words of grace and love,

have mercy, O Lord.

For the times that we tear one another down instead of build one another up,

have mercy, O Lord.

For the hate and bitterness and anger and rumors and lies that we are guilty of spreading when we know that we are called to be children of Love,

have mercy, O Lord.

In your mercy, Lord, forgive us.

Teach us to be imitators of You, Holy God.  Guide us to live in love, to forgive as you forgive, and to be kind in all we do.
