20th Sunday after Pentecost [Ordinary 28B] – Words for Worship (Year B)

Call to Worship (adapted from Psalm 22, written by D.K. Loving)

Our ancestors trusted in God.

They trusted, and God delivered them.

We seem so little and unimportant,

but God’s love and care are for us too.

Just like our ancestors, we put our trust in God.

Just like our ancestors, we will experience God’s mercy.

Prayer of Confession (inspired by Mark 10:17-31)

Good Teacher, we try our very best to follow your Rule of Love in all we do, but we find ourselves still lacking in our faith.  Call us, again, to let go and follow you completely, O Lord.  Unstop our ears and soften our hearts, that we may hear your call and answer it.  Give us the strength and courage to place our full trust in you alone.
